Gianetta France Wins WCC Player of the Week After Five Home Runs

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Coming off a huge opening weekend, Santa Clara softball sophomore Gianetta France was named the WCC Player of the Week on Monday. This is the first award for France who led the Bronco offense at the Grand Canyon Kick Off. She was also named the College Sports Madness WCC Player of the Week.

Santa Clara returns to the field for the Fresno State Bulldogs Tournament starting Fri., Feb. 13 at 3:45 vs. Fresno State. The Broncos home opener is Fri., Feb. 20 vs. Seattle at 5:30 p.m.

"Being named WCC Player of the Week is such an honor," said France. "This weekend I really tried to relax at the plate. I wanted to stay aggressive and trust that my hard work in practice would pay off."

"Gia had a monster weekend at the plate," said Santa Clara head coach Lisa Mize. "She has bought into Coach Lisle's hitting cues and worked really hard through the fall. Her hard work is paying off. It was a lot of fun to watcher her bat this weekend and we are really proud of her."

France hit .421 (8-19) with a .450 OBP and a 1.263 slugging percentage over the weekend. She swatted five home runs, two each in the first two games of the season, and had 11 RBI. She also added a double and scored six runs for the Broncos.
