SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara women's track & field begins its 2021 season with an outdoor competition on Saturday. The Broncos will race in the Westmont Sunshine Collegiate at Westmont Track in Santa Barbara, California.

The team is scheduled for 800-meter and 5,000-meter events. Among the opponents are Pacific and Pepperdine from the West Coast Conference as well as the host Warriors.

The meet marks the first competition for the Broncos in cross country or track & field since March 7, 2020 at the Cal Opener, the last track & field meet prior to cancellations and postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This is our first race in 11 months and are just excited to get on the line again and see where we are at," associate head coach Pete Cushman said. "Conference is around the corner and this will give us a chance to work through the prerace nerves again. It's a chance to remind ourselves of all the feelings associated with racing that we can't quite match with practices and training."
