Davidson Makes History as Men’s Cross Country's First NCAA Championship Qualifier

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — One of the most accomplished runners in Santa Clara men's cross country history will be the program's first to race on the biggest collegiate stage. Jack Davidson has qualified for the 2021 NCAA Division I cross country championship, announced Sunday morning.

The 10k race is slated for Monday, March 15 at the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Race time is 12:40 p.m. CDT (10:40 a.m. PDT).

"Jack and his teammates have sacrificed so much and worked very hard for this opportunity," head coach Felipe Montoro said. "It's a big day for Jack and a big day for our program. I'm really proud of him and can't wait to watch him mix it up with the best runners in the country on the 15th."

Davidson earned an automatic berth based on his performance for the Broncos at the WCC Cross Country Championships on Feb. 24. In his first competitive cross country meet in 27 months, the Colorado native clocked an 8k program record 23:37.7 to capture eighth place and land a spot on the All-WCC Team. Davidson became the first men's runner to earn the honor at the conference meet since Robbie Reid finished as runner-up in 2009.

In addition to being the fastest 8k runner in program history, Davidson is the second-fastest Bronco runner at 10k. He posted a 30:46.1 at the 2017 Chile Pepper Festival.

Stephanie Wilson is the only other Bronco runner to qualify for the national championship meet, which she did in 2009. Wilson won the WCC Championship that year and took 28th at the national meet to earn All-American honors.
