Litoff Wins 1500m, Track & Field Produces Strong Showings at Spring Break Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. — Santa Clara track & field produced several strong showings on Saturday at the Fresno Pacific Spring Break Invitational. Zach Litoff won the men's 1,500-meter race and Hayley Harrison led a group of four Broncos who claimed the top four sports in the first women's 1,500-meter section at FPU Track.

The competition marked the first outdoor event of the season for the men's team and the second for the women's team. Santa Clara competed against Division I opponents in Cal Poly, San Francisco (women only), Saint Mary's, and UC Santa Barbara.

QUOTABLE

Head coach Felipe Montoro on the men: "We added this competition last minute and we are really grateful for all the work everyone at SCU did to make it happen; COVID protocols make it really hard to add meets last minute. It was a small crew and they took full advantage of the opportunity. Zach had his second-best time ever while Christian and Kyle both set PRs. It was a tremendous start for the outdoor season."

Associate head coach Pete Cushman on the women: "The student-athletes went one through four in their race and there's not much more to do than that. We aren't at our best yet, and I think this is a great performance to build on."

NEXT UP

Jack Davidson is set to compete in Monday's NCAA cross country championship as an individual. The 10k race begins at 10:40 a.m. PDT and will be broadcast on ESPNU and the ESPN app. Coverage begins at 9:30 a.m. PDT. Track & field competitions will be added to the schedule page as they are finalized.
