Santa Clara Head Coach Mark O'Brien
On the game:
"URI was a big threat. They had the chance to go up three or four runs on us. It was a tight game for a quite some time. But Thain did a great job keeping his poise and making quality pitches. Our infield defense was also crucial for us. Curtis Wagner also had a tremendous double-play for us. In the sixth and the seventh we were just able to keep adding to our lead. We had good plate discipline and solid two-strike hitting."
On Matt Long's performance:
"More than Matt having three RBIs, he had 3 two-strike hits for us. When Matt can two-strike hit, he is really dangerous for us."
On the Broncos' bench help:
"We were lucky today to be in a position where we could make some substitutions and get some of our newer player's feet wet. Our guys off the bench did an outstanding job. I'm very happy with they way they went about their business. When their names were called, they were ready to go in and get the job done."
On playing on the East Coast:
"This has been a really good experience for us. We've had a lot of Early wake-up calls. We're up at 7 a.m. and we're at the field by 8:55 a.m. It's shown us the mental toughness of our players. We've been lucky to have had a good trip so far and we really have a chance to make it something special tomorrow."
