SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara baseball hosts Bay Area rival Stanford on Wednesday, May 6 in the season series finale. The Broncos will look to prevent the series sweep with a 6 p.m. first pitch at Stephen Schott Stadium. The Cardinal leads the series 3-0.

Last Time Out
Santa Clara snapped its nine-game losing streak with a 7-2 victory in game two of the Saturday doubleheader with San Diego State. The Aztecs won the series 3-1. Junior RHP Alex Rivers pitched his first collegiate complete game for the win, surrendering two runs on four hits. He also struck out seven. The series finale on Sunday was quite the nail-biter. The Broncos were edged 4-3. The Broncos trailed 3-2 through the seventh inning before the Aztecs claimed a 4-2 advantage in the eighth inning. In the home half, the Broncos brought it back to a one-run game, but could not knot the score.

Bronco Watch
Junior catcher Geoff Klein continues to lead the Broncos batting .391, which is also leads the West Coast Conference. He also has a team-leading 5 home runs and 50 RBIs, and is second with 18 doubles. Junior shortstop Jon Karcich leads with 20 doubles and is second hitting .360. Senior outfielder Matt Long has scored a team-best 35 runs and has six triples to his credit. He is second on the team with four home runs. On the mound, junior RHP Nate Garcia leads the Broncos and the WCC with 82.1 innings pitched and 87 strikeouts. He also has a team-best 3.50 ERA.

Scouting Stanford
The Cardinal will face the Spartans of San Jose State Tuesday evening before battling the Broncos on Wednesday. Stanford enters the midweek contests with a 22-19 overall record. Colin Walsh leads the team batting .314, while Kellen Killsgaard is right behind him hitting .313 with 12 doubles, nine home runs and 37 RBIs. Toby Gerhart has scored a team-leading 33 runs thus far. It has not been announced yet who SCU will face on the mound. Stanford has a team ERA of 4.80, while Drew Storen making a team-high 21 appearances, with seven saves, 46 strikeouts and a 3.26 ERA.

Last Time Out vs. Stanford
The Broncos and Cardinal last met on April 20, 2009 at Sunken Diamond. Stanford won the game 11-1 to take the series. Klein scored the lone run for the Broncos on an Andrew Biancardi single.

On Deck
SCU returns to WCC action on the road this weekend at Saint Mary's. The Broncos and Gaels open the series on Friday, May 8 at 3 p.m. The series continues with games on Saturday and Sunday, both starting at 1 p.m. All three games will be played at Louis Guisto Field in Moraga.

Sending Seniors Out In Style
Saturday was Senior Day for Santa Clara and several of the Bronco veterans had strong showings. Long nearly hit for the cycle in game one. He was a home run shy of reaching the feat for the second time in his career. The Los Altos native compiled the cycle on April 26, 2008 against Hawaii-Hilo. His triple in game one was his sixth of the season and the 14th of his career. Long is now tied for second all-time. Kevin Madden had two runs and two RBIs on the day, while Kyle Van Dusen registered his second career home run in game two.

Bronco Record Book Update
With his sixth triple of the season in game one of Saturday's doubleheader against San Diego State, Long is now tied for No. 7 with Gordy Hahn (1975-77) on the single-season triples list. He also moved to tied for No. 2 on the all-time list with 14 career triples. Karcich also climbed into the record books with his 20th double of the season. He is now tied for 10th on the all-time and single-season lists.
