SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Junior Nate Garcia was named the West Coast Conference's Co-Pitcher of the Week; it was announced by the league Monday afternoon. It is the Santa Clara native's third career weekly accolade from the WCC. He shares the honor with Gonzaga's Cody Martin.
Garcia led the Broncos to a 3-0 shutout over Xavier in the 2009 season opener. He tossed 7.0 innings and struck out eight batters. The 6-foot-1 righty allowed no runs and just three Musketeer hits. With the win, Santa Clara head coach Mark O'Brien earned his 200th career victory.
Santa Clara owns a 2-1 overall record and begins its 2009 home schedule on Wednesday, Feb. 25 against California. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Stephen Schott Stadium
