SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Junior right-hander Nate Garcia was named the West Coast Conference's Pitcher of the Week; it was announced by the league Monday afternoon. It is the Santa Clara native's fourth career weekly accolade from the WCC and the second of the season.
In his third start of the year, the 6-foot-1 Bellarmine College Prep product was credited with a complete game and earned the win after allowing just one run on six hits against Oregon on Friday, March 6. Garcia also struck out a season-high 12 batters.
Garcia received his first honor on February 23 after leading the Broncos to a 3-0 shutout of Xavier in the 2009 season opener. He allowed no runs and just three Musketeers.
For the season, Garcia is 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA. He has tossed 22.0 innings and has struck out 25 batters.
Santa Clara returns to action with a midweek contest against UC Davis on Wednesday, March 11 at 2:30 p.m. The Broncos then return to Stephen Schott Stadium to host the Cornell Big Red in a three-game series this weekend. SCU and Cornell open with a Saturday, March 14 double-header at 1 p.m.
