Bronco Baseball Continues Play Against No. 23 Hawaii

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara baseball will host one non-conference game this week before traveling north to take on Portland in West Coast Conference action this weekend. The Broncos and Rainbows will battle it out on Tuesday, Apr. 7 at 6 p.m. at Stephen Schott Stadium.

Last Time Out
The Broncos were swept by the then-No. 23 Toreros of San Diego over the weekend. SCU is now 10-16 overall and 0-6 in WCC play. Senior Kevin Madden had a solid outing producing four of the Broncos' 19 runs over the weekend. He also had two doubles and a stolen base. Fellow senior David Abraham scored three runs for SCU with two doubles and three RBIs.

Bronco Watch
Junior Geoff Klein continues to lead the Broncos with a .374 batting average. He owns a team-best 35 RBIs and three home runs. Senior Matt Long also has three homers along with three triples and a team-high 22 runs. Senior Brady Fuerst leads with 15 doubles. On the mound, junior Nate Garcia has a team-best 4.01 ERA with a 4-3 record and 53 strikeouts.

Scouting Hawaii
The Rainbows enter the midweek game with a 19-10 overall record, while being 1-2 on the road. The team is led by Vinnie Catricala, who is batting .349 with 20 runs, eight doubles and 22 RBIs. Kolten Wong leads with 23 runs and five home runs, while Kevin Macdonald has collected 26 RBIs. On the mound, the Broncos will face Alex Capaul. He has a 9.58 ERA with a 0-1 record in 10.1 innings. It'll be his second start of the season.

Last Time vs. Hawaii
The Broncos and Rainbows last met in the season opening series on Jan. 26-28, 2007 at Les Murakami Stadium in Honolulu. Hawaii won the series 2-1, but Santa Clara had the final say with a narrow 3-2 victory in the series finale.

All-Time vs. Hawaii
Tuesday's game marks the 25th meeting of the two programs in a series Hawaii leads 14-10-0.

On Deck
Santa Clara returns to West Coast Conference action this weekend against Portland. Due to the Easter holiday on Sunday, the series will begin on Thursday, Apr. 9 at 3 p.m. and will break for Good Friday. The series continues with a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 11. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Joe Etzel Field.
