SANTA CLARA, Calif. - After hitting his fifth home run of the season last weekend, junior catcher Geoff Klein checked in with SantaClaraBroncos.com to talk about some of his favorites, his walk-up song and Forrest Gump.
SantaClaraBroncos.com: Let's start off with a couple of favorites. Who's your favorite baseball team?
Geoff Klein: San Francisco Giants.
SCB: Who's your favorite catcher?
GK: Jorge Posada
SCB: What's your favorite food?
GK: Anything and everything Italian.
SCB: Do you have a favorite place to eat around campus?
GK: If you asked me a year ago, I would have said Chipotle. When it first opened, we went there three times a week. But most recently it's Armadillo Willy's.
SCB: Favorite genre of music?
GK: I would said rock and reggae.
SCB: So what's the best concert you've been to?
GK: Rebelution in Santa Cruz.
SCB: Is that who performs your walk-up song? Why did you choose that song?
GK: Yes, my walk-up song is "Night Crawler" by Rebelution. I decided on it a year ago. I said if we ever get walk-up music that was going to be my song. It's the instrumental in the beginning. I like how it starts slow and then builds up. It's mysterious and an awesome song.
SCB: If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
GK: That's a tough question.
SCB: Okay. We'll come back to it. So, if you could travel anywhere in the world, all expenses paid, where would you go?
GK: I would want to own my own island and vacation with the people that I want to be around. I'm not a big fan of crowds and tourist attractions. My mom is a flight attendant. We've traveled ever since I was a little kid and I hated it! When you're a kid you don't want to go look at statues for hours. Though, I think I would appreciate it more now.
SCB: What do you do to unwind?
GK: Mostly hang out with friends, play video games, go to the movies and concerts.
SCB: If you weren't playing baseball, what would you be doing?
GK: [laughs] I'd probably be a big nerd in a chemistry or biology lab.
SCB: Do you have a favorite movie?
GK: Forrest Gump.
SCB: Any favorite lines?
GK: There are so many! [pause] Oh, okay. This is a good one. [in a southern twang] "I'm not a smart man Jenny, but I know what love is."
SCB: Thanks for doing that in your best Forrest Gump impersonation.
GK: No problem. [laughs] That movie was on HBO on Demand recently. Patrick Terry and I watched it like seven times that week. It has so many life lessons.
SCB: Is there something most people don't know about you?
GK: I'm a quarter Peruvian. My grandpa on my mom's side came here from Peru. That's where I get my skin tone from. I also spoke French when I was little. My grandma on my mom's side is from France, so my mom would speak French to us when we were little. I lost it over time, but I can understand almost anything just from hearing it.
SCB: So, If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
GK: Oh back to this one? Okay. I would love to meet Paul Rudd or Will Ferrell. They would have me in stitches. I love all those movies. They are geniuses and they are hilarious.
