Men's Water Polo Wins Home Opener

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's water polo used a balanced offensive attack to cruise to a 19-7 victory over Biola in its Western Water Polo Association opener.

Ford Eldredge, Matt Peterson, Michael Kreienkamp, Jake Taylor, Matt Somers, Chase Raisin, Nico Valls and Cody Ferguson each scored twice for the Broncos (6-4, 1-0) who never trailed in their first home game of the season.

Santa Clara delivered on special teams and were efficient offensively.

The Broncos allowed the Eagles (1-6, 0-2) to score on only three of 11 attempts with the extra attacker and scored on 53 percent of its shot attempts (36).

They scored five of the first six goals of the game and began to pull away late in the second quarter. Valls, Somers and Eldredge each scored in the final 4 minutes of the period for a 9-3
halftime lead.

Patrick Guinn scored with 3:18 left in the third to begin a flurry of four straight Santa Clara goals in just more than 2 minutes of play to build a 15-4 lead.

Chase Zamborelli had nine saves to pick up the win in net.

Nolan Rapp and Maxwell Osborn each had two goals for Biola.

NOTES

Matt Peterson, Jake Taylor, Blake D'Souza, Chase Raisin, Dominick Kirk and Cody Ferguson started the game. Chase Zamborelli played the first three quarters and Snapper Gulick (four saves) took over for the final frame.

NEXT UP

The Broncos will play four games in the Gray Troyer Tournament, which will be held in both La Verne and Claremont, California, on Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2.
