SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Nikolaos Papanikolaou scored four times and Jack Deely had two goals and four assists to lead a balanced offensive attack for No. 2-ranked California which defeated Santa Clara men's water polo, 22-7, on Wednesday in the regular-season finale.
Roberto Valera had two assists and was one of four other Golden Bears with two goals.
Blake D'Souza had two goals for the Broncos (12-15).
Cal (19-2) scored four times in the first 4 minutes of the game.
Santa Clara cut the lead to 5-3 late in the first quarter on a goal by Billy Barry, but the Bears went on a roll, scoring the next 10.
Cal connected on all four of its 5-meter penalty attempts and was 3-for-8 with the man advantage.
Adrian Weinberg earned the win in net with eight saves.
NOTES
- Ford Eldredge, Jake Taylor, Blake D'Souza, Chase Raisin, Dominick Kirk and Cody Ferguson started along with Sean Tehaney in goal.
- Tehaney was credited with four blocks, all in the first half. Chase Zamborelli started the second half and also had four saves.
- Seniors Andrew Carter, Snapper Gulick, Patrick Guinn, Carter Reeves, D'Souza, Taylor and Tehaney made their final appearance at Sullivan Aquatic Center.
