SANTA CLARA, Calif. - For the second-straight day, Santa Clara men's water polo saw a late comeback bid fall just short.

Owen Hale had four goals, including the game-winner, and Gabe Putnam and Michael Sonsini each scored three times for Harvard which edged the Broncos, 13-12, on Saturday in the final contest of the day in the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament.

Zach Fales also had four goals and Cody Ferguson tallied three for Santa Clara, which three times in the last 10 minutes trailed by three.

Hale's 5-meter penalty goal, the eventual game-winner, with 4:12 remaining in the fourth quarter have the Crimson a 13-10 advantage.

Fales scored twice in 40-second span and the Broncos had a chance to tie with 57 seconds on the clock. Harvard's Alex Bucur was called for a penalty foul, but goaltender Noah Hodge turned aside Ford Eldredge's 5-meter attempt.

Santa Clara, which lost to Princeton 12-11 on a late goal on Friday, got the ball back with 25 seconds left. Fales had the final shot, but his attempt clanged off the post.

Fales' first goal gave the Broncos a 4-2 advantage in the opening quarter, but Harvard scored the next three goals.

Santa Clara was able to tie the game twice but never regained the lead.

The three-day event finishes on Sunday with the Broncos playing in two of the four games at Sullivan Aquatic Center.

There will also be four games at San Jose State, which has been a co-host of the event.

ABOUT THE JULIAN FRASER MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT
The Santa Clara water polo community lost one its own in the spring of 2017 with the passing of men's player Julian Fraser. The two-year member of the program touched many around him in his short life. In 2017, in recognition, the water polo program renamed the annual Rodeo Tournament as the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament, a three-day event which features teams from both sides of the country. Fraser was beloved by coaches, teammates and the Santa Clara University community. He had a true joy for the sport, he was a fierce competitor and enjoyed the camaraderie with his teammates. This annual tournament is a fitting way to honor and remember him.
