SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Aleix Aznar Beltran provided plenty of offense and UC Davis pulled away in the fourth quarter to post a 10-7 victory over Santa Clara men's water polo on Thursday.
Beltran tallied seven goals, including three in the final frame, for the eighth-ranked Aggies (11-6, 3-0).
With the scored tied at 6-all, Beltran scored 2 minutes into the fourth. Stefan Venne and Beltran then scored within a 53-second span to increase the lead to three goals.
Cody Ferguson had two goals and Dominick Kirk had two assists for the Broncos (9-7, 1-2) in a Western Water Polo Association game that was tied five times.
Ferguson and Jake Taylor scored in the opening 2 minutes of the game for Santa Clara, but goals from Beltran and Nir Gross evened the score early in the second quarter.
Neither team led by more than one goal until Venne's strike early in the fourth quarter.
The Broncos held the Aggies without a goal on seven attempts with the power play, but Santa Clara could only convert on 1 of 9 chances and went just 1-for-3 on 5-meter penalty chances.
NOTES
- Ford Eldredge, Jake Taylor, Blake D'Souza, Chase Raisin, Dominick Kirk and Cody Ferguson started, along with Chase Zamborelli in net. Zamborelli was credited with 11 saves.
