SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's water polo team is set to play host to the annual Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament, which begins Friday.

The three-day tournament features 13 teams playing a combined 24 games at Santa Clara and San José State.

There will be 16 contests at Sullivan Aquatic Center and eight (on Saturday and Sunday) at SRAC at San José State.

UPDATE (Oct. 22 | 1 p.m. PT): Bucknell is a late scratch from the event due to travel issues so there will now be 21 games in total (13 at Santa Clara and eight at San Jose State).

Action starts on Friday at 12:30 p.m. when California Baptist faces Brown in Sullivan Aquatic Center.

The Broncos (10-8) will play four games in the tournament, which was renamed in 2017 (formerly the Rodeo Tournament) to honor a former Santa Clara player. A two-year member of the program, Fraser passed away in February of 2017.

The tournament was not held in 2020 due the postponement of the season until last spring.

This year's event has special meaning as Alec Fraser, father of Julian, and his friend Jamie Meehan have been biking across the country the last two months supporting Team JF to raise money for Cycle for Survival, which is Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center's fundraiser for rare cancer research.

The pair departed Old Greenwich, Connecticut, on Aug. 15, and plan to arrive in Santa Clara on Friday for the opening of the tournament.

Santa Clara's first game in the tournament is set for Friday at 3:30 p.m. against Princeton. There will be a recognition of Team JF prior to that game.

Alec Fraser and Meehan, joined on the final leg by a number of alumni and friends, will be arriving on the Santa Clara University campus ahead of that game. They are expected to arrive at approximately 3 p.m. at Leavey Center (pool located behind the facility). UPDATE (Oct. 22 | 2:30 p.m. PT): The Team JF biking group will NOT arrive prior to the start of the Princeton game (3:30 p.m. start), but at approx 3:45 p.m. They will be welcomed just outside Sullivan Aquatic Center.

The first game at San Jose State will be on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. when Biola meets Iona. Visit the San Jose State men's water polo webpage for details on games at SRAC.

Santa Clara games will be streamed and live stats will be available. Results and box scores for all remaining games will be posted on the tournament page.

ABOUT THE JULIAN FRASER MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT
The Santa Clara water polo community lost one its own in the spring of 2017 with the passing of men's player Julian Fraser. The two-year member of the program touched many around him in his short life. In 2017, in recognition, the water polo program renamed the annual Rodeo Tournament as the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament, a three-day event which features teams from both sides of the country. Fraser was beloved by coaches, teammates and the Santa Clara University community. He had a true joy for the sport, he was a fierce competitor and enjoyed the camaraderie with his teammates. This annual tournament is a fitting way to honor and remember him.
