Men's Water Polo Falls to UC San Diego

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Calder Hilde-Jones had four goals and Karlo Krmek and Manuel Augusto each tallied three for UC San Diego which overcame a first-half deficit to defeat Santa Clara men's water polo, 16-8, on Thursday.

Cody Ferguson had three goals for the Broncos in the Western Water Polo Association matchup.

Ferguson's goal gave Santa Clara a 5-3 lead early in the second period, but the Tritons (12-8, 5-2) reeled off the next six, including three with either the extra attacker or on a 5-meter.

UC San Diego went 5-for-9 on the power play and connected on its lone 5-meter attempt.

The Broncos (12-13, 2-5) attempted to make one final push.

Ford Eldredge's goal with 40 seconds left in the third cut the deficit to 11-7, but UC San Diego followed by scoring three in less than a 2-minute span.

Alexander Nemeth earned the win in net for the Tritons, posting seven blocks and three steals.

Ford Eldredge, Jake Taylor, Blake D'Souza, Chase Raisin, Dominick Kirk and Cody Ferguson started along with Sean Tehaney in goal. Tehaney was credited with four saves

The Broncos play their final regular season WWPA game on Saturday at home. The contest starts at 11 a.m. and the team's seniors will be recognized prior to the start.
