Broncos Maintain Form To Place Third At Silicon Valley Showcase

by Gavin Hall, Santa Clara Athletics Media Relations Student Assistant

MILLBRAE, Calif. - The Broncos closed out their regular season today staying strong and retaining their place in the rankings to finish third at the Silicon Valley Showcase presented by SK Hynix. Three Broncos also earned Top-20 finishes in the individual competition.

The story of the tournament for Borina Sutikto (74-75-74--223) was consistency as all of her rounds were within a shot of each other and she was the only Bronco to avoid making a double bogey throughout the three rounds; ending up at 10-over, Sutikto earned a tied 11th finish. Not far behind the Sophomore was Junior Lauren Shew (76-73-78--227) who had the best par-3 performance of any Bronco going 2-over on the shorter holes. After the Final Round, she dropped a couple of spots to finish in solo 15th place.

Audrey Brust (77-77-76--230) was also able to get into the Top-20 this week as she finished in tied 20th place; she contributed two of her rounds to the team total and just had a couple of higher scores on two holes on Day One that held her back from placing higher in the ranks. Finishing just a shot behind Brust was Claire Choi (77-75-79--231) who had a solid week placing T23 and was one of only four players in the field to have an eagle on their card.

Tying for 33rd place was Inara Sharma (78-74-84--236) who found her best play in Round 2 but found some struggles today in the Final Round. Brianna Park (79-82-80--241) played as an individual this week and was able to keep her scores under and around 80 and recorded just two double bogeys through three rounds and finished in a tie for 43rd.

Santa Clara (304-297-307--908) collectively continued good play today and were only outplayed by the two ranked teams in the field. A single team champion was not crowned today as Stanford and Pepperdine shared the title as they both finished at 17-over for the tournament. Pepperdine's Lion Hoge took home individual medalist honors as she climbed three spots and finished at 1-over overall.

Looking forward, Santa Clara women's golf will take a short break of a week before heading up north to Washington to compete in their conference's season-culminating event, the West Coast Conference Championships.
