Broncos Complete First 18 Holes Of NGI

MARICOPA, Ariz. - Today all the Broncos finished within four shots of each other after the first round of the National Golf Invitational. The top Bronco today was Audrey Brust and as a team, Santa Clara sits in ninth place following 18 holes of play.

Brust opened with a 1-over 73 that included three birdies and an even par back 9. She led the field in par-3 scoring today at 2-under and is tied for 15th. Inara Sharma was even through 17 holes but unfortunately finished with a triple to shoot a 3-over 75; she is sitting in a tie for 22nd. Also in 22nd is Lauren Shew whose three bogeys were the only blunders on her card today in a round of 3-over 75.

Claire Choi was 1-over on the front nine where she carded a birdie before going 3-over on the back to shoot a 4-over 76 and sit in a tie for 29th. Borina Sutikto had two birdies on her card but had seven bogeys on the day to shoot an opening round of 5-over 77 and to go into a tie for 36th.

Today, Santa Clara was in the top 3 out of the 10 teams competing in par-3 and par-5 scoring averaging 3.00 and 4.80, respectively. Overall the Broncos are 11 over par and in ninth place. Penn State leads the field at even par overall and the Nittany Lion Michelle Cox leads the individual race at 5-under. The Broncos will be going out in twosomes tomorrow morning alongside Seattle beginning at 7:30 AM PT.
