SANTA CLARA, Calif. – it was a frustrating night for Santa Clara women's soccer who looked extremely dangerous on offense but still fell to No. 8 Penn State 1-0 on an own goal.
Despite a fairly even first 45 minutes the Nittany Lions (4-1-1) had a 1-0 lead thanks to an own goal in the 14th minute. The Broncos (1-4) came out and dominated the second half, creating chance after chance but couldn't find the equalizer.
NOTES
- Santa Clara had an 18-5 edge in shots and a 4-1 lead in shots on goal.
- The Broncos drew 10 corner kicks while allowing just one.
- Izzy D'Aquila led the way with six shots with Lucy Mitchell adding three and Holly Furphy, Makoto Nezu, and Alyssa Bourgeois all collecting two.
- Marlee Nicolos made her season debut and started in net. She had been out since September 5, 2021 after tearing her ACL. She made one save.
- Katherine Asman made four saves for Penn State. Her defense helped her as well, clearing a couple chances from the six-yard box.
- Santa Clara is now 1-3-1 all-time vs. Penn State.
