SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Conference play began with a bang for Santa Clara women's soccer in a 3-0 win over Pacific, avenging a nonconference loss in Stockton last weekend.
Izzy D'Aquila continued her impressive stretch, scoring all three goals for her second hat trick in three matches and her third match with multiple goals in the last four. The Broncos (4-6-1, 1-0 WCC) were on the front foot much of the day and created chances throughout the 90 minutes.
The Tigers (5-1-6, 0-1 WCC), who suffered their first loss of the year, created three very good chances to get on the scoreboard, but Marlee Nicolos made three impressive saves to post her second clean sheet of the year.
NOTES
- Santa Clara outshot Pacific 17-6 and 9-3 in shots on target. D'Aquila attempted 11 shots with seven being on frame.
- D'Aquila posted the 31st hat trick in program history and her second this season. She becomes the first Bronco with multiple hat tricks in a season since Morgan Marlborough had three in 2013.
- The eight days between hat tricks was the second fewest in program history. Jacqui Little had six days between hat tricks in 1999.
- The 2013 team was also the last team to have more than three hat tricks in a season with Sofia Huerta adding one to Marlborough's three. That year, they finished second in the nation in scoring. This season, Farrah Walters also recorded a hat trick at Oregon on September 9.
- Brenna Crump came up with six saves on the day to prevent the game from getting out of hand. It was the most goals allowed by Pacific this season and just the third match with multiple goals allowed.
- Santa Clara is now 16-1 all-time vs. Pacific.
