Season Ends for Women's Soccer at Top-Seeded Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Santa Clara women's soccer's season came to an end with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded Notre Dame on a snowy and cold Friday evening in South Bend.

The Fighting Irish (16-2-3) were on the offensive from the beginning and created plenty of chances in the first half but weren't able to score until a penalty kick in the 44th minute. They would come out of the half and score twice in the 48th minute before adding another in the 61st.

The Broncos (11-7-3) were able to create a few chances in the later stages of the match but couldn't get one in.

NOTES

  • Marlee Nicolos kept her team in it, making 12 saves.
  • Izzy D'Aquila finished her season with 19 goals. It was the most in a season since Mandi Clemens scored 24 in 1999. D'Aquila's season is sixth in program history for goals in a single season.
  • D'Aquila also finished with 43 points, tied for eighth-most in a single season. It was the best total since Aly Wagner had 54 in 2001.
  • D'Aquila's finishes her career seventh Bronco in history with 50 career goals.
  • D'Aquila is also ninth in program history with 116 points. Next is Leslie Osborne (2011-04) with 122.
  • This was just the Broncos second loss in the NCAA Tournament in five appearances since 2018.
  • Santa Clara hadn't lost an NCAA Tournament match by more than one goal since 2007. The Broncos hadn't allowed more than one goal in a tournament match since 2015.
  • Overall, the Broncos are 64-26-6 in the NCAA Tournament and 37-3-3 at home.
  • Santa Clara is now 7-15-2 all-time vs. Notre Dame.
