Two Women's Soccer Alums Named to US Roster for Women's World Cup

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – A pair of Santa Clara women's soccer alums have been named to the U.S. Women's World Cup roster. Julie Ertz and Sofia Huerta will both be with the Americans as they go for their third straight Women's World Cup victory in July and August in Australia and New Zealand.

A three-time First Team All-American for the Broncos, Ertz has 118 caps with the National Team while scoring 20 goals and adding four assists. She has been a part of two World Cup winning squads (2015 and 2019) while playing with the team during the 2016 Olympics.

The 2017 and 2019 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year, Ertz also won the CONCACAF Women's Championship Golden Ball in 2018. She is also a two-time FIFA FIFPro Women's World 11 selection (2015 and 2019) and was IFFHS Women's World Team in 2019.

Huerta earned her first cap with the U.S. against New Zealand on September 16, 2017. She was part of the 2022 CONCACAF Women's Championship qualifiers.

At Santa Clara, Huerta was a two-time All-American (2013-14), a three-time All-West Region selection (2011-13), a four-time member of the First Team All-WCC team, and the 2014 co-WCC Player of the Year.

Huerta is No. 6 on Santa Clara's all-time list with 45 career goals and No. 8 with 109 points. Her 17 goals in 2014 is tied for seventh in a single season and her 16 in 2013 is tied for 10th. She also had two career hat tricks (Nov. 9, 2013 vs. Gonzaga and Sept. 7, 2014 vs. Fresno State).

Ertz and Huerta are two of 24 women's soccer alums to represent their country on the national stage, 16 of which have played for the US.
