Women's Soccer Picks Up Road Win at LMU

LOS ANGELES – Against one of the toughest defenses in the country, Santa Clara women's soccer came out of Southern California with a 1-0 win over LMU on Wednesday night.

The Broncos (5-6-1, 2-0 WCC) put all kinds of pressure on a Lions' (2-2-6, 0-2 WCC) defense that had surrendered just four goals all season. Despite all the pressure, Santa Clara wasn't able to break through until a penalty in the box led to Izzy D'Aquila converting a penalty kick in the 52nd minute. It was D'Aquila's team-leading 12th goal of the year.

If not for the great play of Amanda Delgado in net for the Lions, the Broncos could have put several more goals on the board.

NOTES

  • Santa Clara attempted 17 shots while allowing just two. The Broncos put four of their shots on target with the Lions putting just one on frame.
  • The Broncos also drew seven corner kicks and surrendered just one.
  • D'Aquila has scored 10 goals in the last five matches. She is now 4-for-4 on penalty kicks this season.
  • The goal was D'Aquila's 43rd career tally. That puts her at ninth all time in program history. She is one behind Leslie Osborne (2011-04).
  • Marlee Nicolos made one save to post her second consecutive shutout and third overall this season.
  • Delgado made three saves in the match. It was her foul on D'Aquila that led the deciding PK.
  • Santa Clara is now 24-4-1 all-time vs. LMU.

NEXT UP
