PHOENIX - Santa Clara softball concluded play at the Grand Canyon University Purple Classic on Sunday losing 14-1 in five innings to Cal State Fullerton. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Broncos (4-6) who finished the tournament taking three of five games.
Cal State Fullerton (7-3) racked up 13 hits and 14 runs but only five were earned as the Broncos defense committed four errors on the day.
The Titans scored a run in the top of the second on a Deshea Hill solo home run off Broncos starter Hannah Edwards. They put up two more in the third, including an RBI double by Peyton Toto to go up 3-0.
Santa Clara got a run back in the bottom of the third aided by a couple of Titans errors to get within two runs.
However, the Titans put up 11 runs in the fifth on 10 hits and three errors.
Staci Chambers (2-0) earned the win giving up an unearned run and three hits over four innings. Edwards (2-3) was the losing pitcher.
NEXT UP
The Broncos face Fresno State in a doubleheader home opener on Tuesday. First pitch is at 2 p.m. The second game is scheduled to start at approximately 4 p.m.
