SAN MATEO, Calif. – For the second time this season, Santa Clara softball centerfielder Ashley Trierweiler was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week, posting a slash line of .667/.750/.667 to spark the Broncos offense to a series win against Saint Mary's over the weekend.
In three games against the Gaels, the redshirt sophomore safely reached base nine times from her customary leadoff spot, going 6-for-9 with a pair of walks and was hit by a pitch once. She also scored five times, stole three bases and drove in two runs.
In Saturday's series opener, Trierweiler reached base in all four plate appearances and scored three times to help Santa Clara rally from a 3-0 deficit to claim a 6-3 win.
On Sunday, the Belmont, California native led off the bottom of the first inning with a walk, stole second and came home on Regan Dias' RBI single to open the scoring in a game the Broncos would win 7-0 to take the series. Trierweiler finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs, an RBI and stole two bases.
Trierweiler was named WCC Player of the Week back on March 21.
The Broncos next play on April 29 at BYU.
