NOTES
  • Santa Clara has won the last three games, all by shutouts, and nine of the last 13 games.  
  • In their last outing, the Broncos swept Mount St. Mary's in a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday, downing the Mountaineers 1-0 and 2-0 behind shutout efforts by Sage Hager and Regan Dias.
  • Last Sunday, in the finale of the Silicon Valley Classic I Tournament, Hager tossed a shutout against Cal Poly, 1-0. 
  • The last time the Broncos had three-straight shutouts was in 2004 when they shutout four-straight games blanking both ends of the doubleheaders against Portland State (April 4, 2004) and UC Davis (April 6, 2004).  
  • In the last three games, Hager and Dias have thrown 21 scoreless innings, allowing 13 hits, three walks and eight strikeouts. 
  • The trio of Bronco hurlers - Hager, Dias and Hannah Edwards - have combined for all 10 Santa Clara wins this season to go along with nine complete games and five shutouts. 
  • In the last 13 games where the Broncos are 9-4, the team is batting .299 with a 2.62 team ERA. 
  • Over the last 13 games:  
    • Ashley Trierweiler is hitting .489 (22-for-45) with a .531 on-base percentage and is slugging .644, topping the team in all three categories.
    • Emma Bickford (.395), Allyson Ferreira (.351) and Sammy Needham (.303) are all hitting above .300 
    • The Broncos are 16-of-18 in stolen base attempts.
    • Hager is 5-0 with a 1.20 ERA with four complete games including two shutouts.
  • 2022 overall statistics entering the UCSB South Coast Invitational.  
  • SCU, under third-year head coach Gina Carbonatto, enters the season picked to finish fourth in the West Coast Conference as voted on by the six conference head coaches. 
  • Santa Clara finished the 2021 campaign with an 8-20 record including 5-10 in WCC play.
  • A full schedule is on the docket for the 2022 season.  Among the 51 regular season games, 20 will be played at Santa Clara Softball Stadium, 18 true road games and 13 neutral site contests.  The Broncos will play seven games against four teams – BYU, Fresno State, Iowa State and Stanford – that competed in the NCAA Tournament last season.  
  • The Broncos field an experienced squad with 15 returnees including 13 that played in 2021 and two that last played in 2020.  
  • Six newcomers dot the roster - Lauren BrysonAbigail CharpentierSage HagerKelsi RiceMorgan Salmon and Nina Taylor.
  • The top three hitters from 2021 return - Ashley Trierweiler (program record .481 batting average), Emma Bickford (.329) and Allyson Ferreira (.282).  Sammy Needham, who hit .394 in 2020 but did not play last season returns in 2022. 
  • Trierweiler and Bickford were named preseason All-WCC as vote on by the league's six head coaches.  
  • In the circle, the Broncos return all five pitchers from 2021 plus Hannah Edwards who last pitched in 2020 where she appeared in 11 games, going 3-6 with a 3.31 ERA.
