Softball Takes San Diego Series on Senior Day

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara softball pitchers Lauren Anderson and Hannah Edwards combined to hold the San Diego lineup to one run on four hits and Lauren LaHood drove in two runs in the Broncos 3-1 win on Sunday to take West Coast Conference series.

Anderson, who was one of three seniors honored prior to the game along with Sarah Ellersick and Liyah Lopez, started in the circle and threw four shutout innings, allowing just one hit and a walk to earn the win.

Edwards pitched the final three frames and gave up a run on three hits to pick up her second save of the season.

LaHood starred offensively going 3-for-3 and drove in the first two runs of the game.  Regan Dias went 2-for-3 with a run.

In the first inning, Ashley Trierweiler led off with a triple to the left center gap and came home on LaHood's single to open the scoring.

Santa Clara (20-28, 6-6 WCC) added another run in the third when Lopez led off with a double, followed by LaHood's triple to right center to make it 2-0.

An inning later, Abigail Charpentier and Regan Dias pulled a double steal with Dias swiping home to give the Broncos a three run lead.

San Diego (20-34, 5-9 WCC) scored their lone run in the fifth, facing Edwards who had just entered the game.  Clareese Santiago and Arisa Tovar got base hits to lead off the inning and with runners at the corners, Amanda Limon successfully executed a squeeze bunt to plate Santiago.

Edwards would shut the door on the Toreros the rest of the way, giving up one base runner in the last two innings.
