SAN MATEO, Calif. – Santa Clara softball had five players recognized on the All-West Coast Conference Teams, as announced by the league Tuesday.
Redshirt sophomore Ashley Trierweiler was named to the first team with redshirt freshman Hannah Edwards and redshirt junior Lauren LaHood named to the second team. Freshman Sage Hager and redshirt junior Sammy Needham were recognized as honorable mentions.
Trierweiler batted .394 overall including .380 in 15 conference games as the table setter atop the lineup helping the Broncos finish with a 7-8 record, good for sole position of third place in the WCC standings. She also led the team with 12 runs scored.
Edwards posted a 2-1 record and a save with a 1.97 ERA in eight league appearances. In three starts, she went the distance each time including a shutout, blanking San Diego 1-0. In her next start, Edwards tossed a six-hit complete game against WCC co-Champion LMU in the 5-2 series opening win.
LaHood led the Broncos with a .385 batting average, .654 slugging percentage and seven RBIs in WCC action. She went 10-for-26 in nine games with a .429 on-base percentage.
True freshman Hager started a team-high six games in the circle against WCC foes and had a 2-3 record with a 3.58 ERA. Both her wins came against Saint Mary's, one of three WCC series wins the Broncos had on the season. Hager issued just two walks over 29 1/3 innings.
Needham hit .310 in 14 WCC games going 13-for-42 including two doubles and a triple. She also had the second most RBIs on the squad with six.
For Trierweiler, it was her second all-league recognition, repeating as a first team selection. It was the first honor for Edwards, Hager, LaHood and Needham.
Santa Clara closed out the 2022 season last weekend finishing with a 21-30 overall record. It was the most wins the program had since the 2006 season.
WCC co-Champion LMU nearly swept the major honors as Tairia Flowers was named Coach of the Year, Jasmine Sofowora took the Freshman of the Year honor, Jenna Perez was the Pitcher of the Year and Georgia Blair was the Player of the Year. Delaney Scully from Pacific was the Defensive Player of the Year, an award Trierweiler won last season.
