Broncos Duo Ranked No. 33 in Preseason Women’s Tennis National Rankings

ITA Preseason Doubles Rankings

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – For the second-straight year, Santa Clara women's tennis players Maddie Pothoff and Elvena Gevargiz start the season ranked in the Oracle ITA Division I women's preseason doubles rankings.

Pothoff, a graduate student, and Gevargiz, a senior, are ranked No. 33 after finishing the COVID-19 shortened 2019-20 season with a 6-3 doubles record, all coming during the 2019 fall season.  The Bronco duo were ranked No. 58 in last season's preseason rankings.

A two-time All-West Coast Conference selection in both singles and doubles as well a two-time conference All-Academic selection, Pothoff led the team with 11 singles and 16 doubles wins on the season including a 6-3 singles and 5-2 doubles record in the spring, all coming atop the lineup.

Gevargiz was also named WCC All-Academic last season and finished her junior campaign with eight singles and 13 doubles wins.  In the spring, Gevargiz finished with four straight singles wins to post a 5-3 record for the second most wins on the squad getting all her wins on court three.  In spring doubles action, she paired with Madison Clarke to pick up three wins, all on court two.
