SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Rozalina Youseva clinched the match for San Jose State with a three set win over JennaMarie Gordon to give the Spartans a 4-3 victory over Santa Clara on Saturday afternoon.
With the team score tied at 3-all, the match came down to court two where Youseva came up on top 7-6 (9-7), 5-7, 6-4.
The Broncos (1-3) got off to a solid start taking the doubles point when Gordon and Giulia Hayer defeated Alba Pedrero Galindo and Lara Marco Mas 7-6 (7-3) after the two squads split the first two doubles matches.
Finley Kalinic was responsible for the first doubles win while paired with Katherine Petty to beat Savannah Sendar and Youseva 6-3.
Kalinic, a freshman, continued her strong play picking up a singles win over Sendar 6-4, 6-3 to give SCU a 2-1 advantage on the team score.
After SJSU (4-0) took a 3-2 lead with wins on courts six and five, Jamie Schroer evened it when her opponent Pedrero Galindo retired in the second set before Youseva's matcher clincher.
