Women’s Tennis Face a Pair of Bay Area Schools This Week

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis take on a pair of Bay Area schools playing at Stanford on Friday at 2 p.m. and hosting San Jose State on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Broncos (1-1) are coming off a weekend split losing to Nevada 4-3 before sweeping Dominican 7-0 to open the spring season.

Four freshmen – JennaMarie Gordon, Katherine Petty, Finley Kalinic and Varya Zlotnik - were in the starting lineups for both singles and doubles matches over weekend.

Friday's opponent, Stanford, will be playing their first match of the 2021 spring season.  Last season, the Cardinal went 10-2 before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Stanford returns its entire roster from 2019-20 including the No. 10 ranked singles player Michaela Gordon, the older sister of Broncos freshman JennaMarie Gordon.

San Jose State (2-0) has two matches under their belt with road wins against UC Irvine and Sacramento State.  They face San Francisco on Friday before the match against the Broncos at the Degheri Tennis Center.

Due to current guidelines in Santa Clara County, spectators will not be permitted inside Degheri Tennis Center. In addition, only essential personnel is allowed on campus. The general public is allowed only to 'pass through' campus, such as on a walk, but no lingering, gathering, lounging, etc. is permitted.

All home matches will be live streamed.  Viewers can go to this link and follow the live action on each of the six courts.
