Volleyball's Sangiacomo Named Preseason All-WCC, SCU Picked 5th

WCC RELEASE

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara volleyball's Julia Sangiacomo was named to the 2021 All-West Coast Conference Preseason Volleyball Team and the Broncos were picked to finish fifth in the WCC, announced by the conference on Wednesday.

The preseason poll and the All-WCC team are selected solely by a vote of the conference's 10 head coaches. Coaches cannot vote for their own teams and student-athletes.

Sangiacomo now has two straight preseason all-conference nods. The junior outside hitter is a three-time all-conference selection.

In 2020, Sangiacomo was named First Team All-WCC and landed a spot on the AVCA Pacific North All-Region Team after ranking second in the conference with 4.19 kills/set (39th NCAA) and 4.75 points/set (37th NCAA). She posted 10 or more kills in 16 of 18 matches and had four double-doubles in the season played in spring 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sangiacomo earned Second Team All-WCC and WCC All-Freshman Team honors in 2019.

The Broncos begin the 2021 season on Friday, Aug. 27 at the Oregon Invitational in Eugene, Oregon. They match up with San José State at 11 a.m. and No. 14 Oregon at 6 p.m. to start the two-day event. Santa Clara plays its first nine matches away from home and takes to the Leavey Center court for the first time against LMU in the WCC opener on Sept. 23.
