LA JOLLA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's water polo split its final two games at the Triton Invitational, a 16-team tournament held at UC San Diego.
The Broncos (3-4) defeated Pomona-Pitzer, 10-6, before falling to Marist, 10-7, on Sunday.
Santa Clara 10, Pomona-Pitzer 6
Lauren Baglietto, Katie Francis and Hailey Eberle each scored twice and the Broncos overcame an early deficit to post a 10-6 win over Pomona-Pitzer.
After the Sagehens scored twice in the opening two minutes of the game, Santa Clara reeled off the next five goals.
A goal from Jessie Nesbit pulled Pomona-Pitzer within 6-4, but Eberle scored with less than 1 minute left in the first half and Kelly Frunmkin made it a four-goal cushion midway through the third quarter.
Santa Clara connected on all three 5-meter attempts, including two from Francis, and went 3-for-11 with the extra attacker.
Marist 10, Santa Clara 7
Anais Mathes, Viktoria Orlova and Shinae Carrington tallied two goals apiece for Marist which held off Santa Clara, 10-7.
Maggie Oys posted a season-high three goals and Hailey Eberle scored once and had two assists for the Broncos.
Oys scored to cut the deficit to 5-3 with 6:51 left in the third quarter, but Mathes answered just more than 1 minute later and the Broncos were never closer.
Lydia Dadd registered 10 blocks and three steals.
Six of Santa Clara's goals came with the extra attacker (in 13 attempts).
Marist went 4-for-10 with the man advantage.
