Women’s Water Polo Wins Home Opener

SANTA CLARA, Calif.Maggie Oys, Hailey Eberle and Gabi Sicat each tallied two goals, and Santa Clara women's water polo held Sonoma State scoreless in the second half of a 9-4 victory on Saturday in its home opener.

Oys posted two consecutive goals in the second quarter and Kelly Frumkin's strike 1 second before halftime gave the Broncos their first lead at 5-4.

Santa Clara (5-4) extended its edge with two goals each in the third and fourth quarters.

Sicat's goal in the final minute of the third increased the lead to 7-4.

Lydia Dadd registered eight saves and one assist for the Broncos who have won three of their last four.

Cassidy Mundt had two goals for the Seawolves (2-6) who were held to just 1-for-8 with the extra attacker.

Santa Clara was 3 of 6 with the power play and scored on its lone 5-meter attempt by Eberle.

Frumkin was credited with three assists and Emma Allegrucci drew three kickouts,

Sonoma State took led 3-1 in the first quarter on back-to-back goals from Mundt.

Maggie Ireland posted a goal midway through the first quarter, and Eberle scored with 37 seconds left in the first quarter to pull Santa Clara within 3-2.
