SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's water polo used a balanced offensive attack and timely defensive stops to come away with a 10-3 home victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday.
Maggie Oys had two goals and Hailey Eberle scored once and had two assists for the Broncos (6-4) who won for the fourth time in the last five games, including second in a row at home.
Maddy Gomes and Gabi Sicat each a goal and an assist, and Lydia Dadd made 11 saves in three quarters of work for Santa Clara, which was 0-for-7 with the extra attacker, but connected on all three 5-meter attempts.
The Broncos held the Otters (0-2) scoreless for more than 22 minutes of game action.
Angela Steele's goal with 5:39 left in the opening quarter cut the Santa Clara lead to 2-1.
Oys scored the next two before the end of the quarter to start a run of seven straight goals for the Broncos.
Amanda Bennett's strike with 7:09 left in the game snapped the flurry and made it 9-2.
Lauren Baglietto scored once and drew three of nine kickouts and one 5-meter penalty against Cal State Monterey Bay.
NOTES
• Emma Allegrucci, Maddy Gomes, Kelly Frumkin, Maggie Oys, Hailey Eberle, Gabi Sicat and Lydia Dadd started the game.
• Eberle has scored a goal in all but one game (vs. UC Irvine, Feb. 8) this season. She leads the team in both goals (21) and assists (16).
• Dadd had double-digit blocks for the fifth time this year.
• Oys had her sixth game of the season with multiple goals, including four in a row.

The Broncos play four games Wolverine Invitational at Michigan beginning on Saturday. Santa Clara starts a three-game homestand on Friday, March 6, against San Diego State in a matchup of Golden Coast Conference foes.
