SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Today, Bronco baseball announces the seventh member of its incoming freshman class for 2016-17, Zach Walsh. The shortstop currently attends Vista Ridge High School in Cedar Park, Texas.

"The coaching staff's experience and integrity was a huge factor, but it wasn't until after meeting with them personally that it was apparent they played a major role in my decision," Walsh said. "That's when I decided there was nowhere else I wanted to be than doing what I love best at Stephen Schott Stadium with the best coaching staff and teammates."

Walsh, a varsity captain as a junior in 2014-15, produced a standout season for head coach Jason Bourgeois and the Rangers. Walsh was named the team's MVP in addition to Offensive Player of the Year Honors and his second straight First Team All-District 25 selection.

"Zach is a very advanced hitter who will easily adjust to pitching at the college level," associate head coach/recruiting coordinator Gabe Ribas said. "His athleticism and work ethic really stood out in the recruiting process.

"Zach can play any position in the infield which is going to help him see time on the field early on in his career. Like many of the other members of this class, Zach is a real grinder who holds himself to a high standard in everything he does, which is going to allow him to create success for himself on and off the field in his time at SCU."

The 5-foot-11-inch, 175-pound prospect was selected to the Hill County News Dazzling Dozen. He won championships as part of Perfect Game Super 25 and Gold Games teams. Walsh was named to the Perfect Game All-Tournament Team.

Outside of baseball, Walsh enjoys fishing, camping and working out. He is a member of Young Life, E-Teens and the VRHS Spirit Council.
