SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Today, Bronco baseball announces the eighth member of its incoming freshman class for 2016-17, Jason Dicochea. The middle infielder currently attends Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, Calif.

"I chose Santa Clara because it provides the perfect fit for me in terms of academics, athletics, campus life and environment," Dicochea said.

Dicochea hit .272 with 17 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in the field along with a 7-1 record in 51 innings pitched on the mound for head coach Jeff Baumback and the Sea Hawks as a junior in 2014-15. Redondo Union finished the season at 29-7 and won the CIF Southern Section Division III and Bay League Championships.

"Jason is a guy we got to see progress over the course of time," associate head coach/recruiting coordinator Gabe Ribas said. "His ability to get consistently better every time we saw him play was really impressive. Jason has a great feel for the game and is a very good defender at three positions in the infield.

"Like the other members of this class, Jason really represents all the things that it means to be a Bronco Baseball player. We are really excited to see what Jason does in his four years here."

The 5-foot-11-inch, 180-pound prospect is an AP Scholar and National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar. Dicochea has volunteered with Special Olympics and Little League, and works with Youth Ministry. Outside of baseball, he enjoys weightlifting, outdoor activities and working with special needs children.

Next week's future Bronco is Griffin Keller.
