Baseball’s White Named Rawlings WCC Pitcher of the Week

WCC Release/Video

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball's Mitchell White dealt one of the most impressive performances by a West Coast Conference pitcher this season on Saturday night. The right-hander pitched a complete game and struck out a career-high 15 batters while allowing only a single run to Portland in a 9-1 Bronco victory. He was recognized Monday as the Rawlings WCC Pitcher of the Week.

White threw 100 pitches, allowed only four hits and did not issue a walk. He tossed six 1-2-3 innings overall and retired 10 straight batters over the last four frames, including six straight strikeouts from the seventh through ninth innings. The San Jose native retired 10 of the first 11 Pilots and 15 of the first 17 hitters overall.

White's complete game victory is the first for the Broncos since Tommy Nance pitched a shutout in a 3-0 win at Stanford on May 14, 2013. Santa Clara's ace ranks fourth in the nation and first in the WCC with 116 strikeouts, he has struck out 9+ batters in nine of 13 weekend starts.
