Berman, White Selected for All-WCC Preseason Baseball Team

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Reigning All-West Coast Conference honorees Stevie Berman and Mitchell White have been selected to the 2016 All-WCC Preseason Baseball Team, announced by the conference on Wednesday. Berman is one of 10 position players and White is one of five pitchers named to the preseason team. Santa Clara was picked to finished seventh in the conference. 

Berman, a junior catcher, hit .336 with four home runs and 27 RBIs during his sophomore season for the Broncos. He was named Second Team All-WCC. In 2014, Saratoga, Calif. native earned All-WCC Freshman Team and All-WCC Honorable Mention honors.

White, a redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher, made a team-high 29 appearances last season and went 3-2 with a 3.62 ERA in 32.1 innings. He struck out 40 batters and finished second on the team with five saves. White was recognized on the All-WCC Freshman team.

Pepperdine received the most preseason team selections with three, while five teams (Santa Clara, Gonzaga, LMU, Saint Mary's and San Diego) had two selections.

San Diego, last season's WCC regular season champion, was picked to win the conference again with six first-place votes and 76 points. Pepperdine received three first-place votes and LMU received one. The Broncos totaled 38 points.

Santa Clara begins the 2016 season Friday, Feb. 19 against Notre Dame with a 6 p.m. first pitch at Schott Stadium.
