Kuhns, Berman Selected on Final Day of MLB Draft

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball's Max Kuhns and Stevie Berman had their names called during the final day of the 2016 MLB Draft on Saturday. The New York Mets selected Kuhns in the 21st round (640th overall) and the Los Angeles Dodgers selected Berman in the 31st round (941st overall).

Kuhns and Berman join Mitchell White, who was taken by the Dodgers in the 2nd round (65th overall) on Thursday. The three Broncos drafted are the most in a single season since 2010.

Kuhns, a 2016 All-West Coast Conference Honorable Mention selection, set a Bronco single-season record with 14 saves in 2016. In the regular season, he led the WCC in saves and tied for ninth in the NCAA in saves. The Parker, Colo. native recorded seven more saves than the next-highest WCC pitcher and boasted a 2.21 ERA alongside a .192 opposing batting average and 37 strikeouts in 40.2 innings.

Berman led the Broncos in batting average (.297), on-base percentage (.432) and walks (26) in his junior campaign. The Saratoga, Calif. native tallied 13 doubles, four home runs and 22 RBIs in 2016. He was a 2015 All-WCC Second Team selection, 2014 All-WCC Honorable Mention selection and a 2014 WCC All-Freshman Team selection.
