Conference Play Begins at Pepperdine Thursday for Women's Basketball

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – West Coast Conference opens for Santa Clara women's basketball Thursday at 4 p.m. at Pepperdine.

The Broncos concluded their nonconference slate with a heartbreaking one-point loss at Grand Canyon on Thursday.

SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 39-35 all-time against Pepperdine with the first meeting coming in 1978-79. Last season, the Broncos picked up two wins over the Waves, both by 21 points, and have won six in a row in the series.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (4-7) has the top defense in the conference, allowing just 57.2 points per game. As a team, the Broncos force 16.8 turnovers and collect 9.7 steals. On offense, they shoot 38.0-percent from the field.

Ashlyn Herlihy leads the team in scoring with 10.7 ppg and has hit a team-best 14 3-pointers. She also adds 5.4 rebounds per game as well. Morgan McGwire's 8.3 rpg lead Santa Clara and she is second in scoring with 9.7 ppg. McGwire also leads the team with 2.4 spg and 1.5 blocks per game.  Kyla Martin scores 8.9 ppg to go with a team-high 4.6 assists per game while Taylor Berry scores 8.5 ppg an adds 6.3 rpg.

THE WAVES
Pepperdine (4-6) has lost three in a row entering league play. The Waves score 70.1 ppg as a team on 42.-1 percent shooting from the field and 33.7-percent from beyond the arc.

Yasmine Robinson-Bacote is the only player averaging double-figures but is second in the WCC with 19.8 ppg. She also leads the Waves with 7.8 rpg as well. Peyton Langston scores 8.5 ppg and Sydney Bordonaro scores 8.1 ppg with a teampbest 19 3-pointers made. Barbara Sitanggan averages 3.2 apg to lead Pepperdine and adds 4.0 ppg.
