Men’s Basketball Nonconference Home Tipoff Times Finalized

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Tipoff times have been set for this year's Santa Clara men's basketball nonconference home games.

The Broncos will play 13 of their 15 nonconference contests in Leavey Center beginning with the season opener on Nov. 5 against UC Santa Cruz (7 p.m.).

Santa Clara will play the first of two Pac-12 Conference opponents at home when Washington State visits on Nov. 12 with tipoff set for 7 p.m.

The Broncos will have a pair of homestands of five-plus games.

They begin a stretch of five in a row at home on Nov. 19 (7 p.m.) with Notre Dame de Namur, a matchup that serves as the opening game of the 52nd Cable Car Classic.

Santa Clara will welcome Denver, Southeast Missouri and Cal State Fullerton the following week for six games over a four-day day span around Thanksgiving. The Broncos play Denver on Nov. 27 (2 p.m.), Southeast Missouri on Nov. 29 (2 p.m.) and Cal State Fullerton the following day (3:30 p.m.). Those three teams will also face each other.

Santa Clara plays consecutive Saturday afternoon games in early December. Cal visits Leavey Center, to start a six-game homestand, on Dec. 7 (2 p.m.) and Sacramento State comes in on Dec. 14, with tipoff also set for 2 p.m.

The annual rivalry game against San Jose State on Dec. 18 is set to begin at 7 p.m.

The only nonconference road games for the Broncos are against Stanford on Nov. 16 (7 p.m.) and Nevada on Dec. 4 (tip is TBA).

Santa Clara closes out nonconference play against Alcorn State on Dec. 29 with a 2 p.m. start.

Times for West Coast Conference games will be announced in the coming weeks.

NONCONFERENCE SCHEDULE NOTES
• Santa Clara will play host to two Pac-12 teams in Leavey Center for the first time in 26 years and it will only be the second occurrence in the last 36 seasons. The Broncos played Stanford and Arizona in then Toso Pavilion during 1993-94 and 10 years earlier entertained USC and Cal at home.
• Cal is making its first visit to Leavey Center since 1992-93 and the teams are meeting for just the second time since 2006-07. They faced off last season in Berkeley.
• Stanford and Santa Clara last met in 2008-09 when the Cardinal visited Leavey Center.
• The Broncos will meet Washington State for the fourth time in the last five seasons. The Cougars last visited Santa Clara during 2014-15.
• Four teams – Washington State, Idaho State, San José State, Cal – were on the 2018-19 Santa Clara schedule. The Broncos and San José State have met 36 of the last 37 years, including a stretch of 24 straight seasons.
• Southeast Missouri is the only opponent that has never faced Santa Clara. Junior guard Tahj Eaddy spent the 2016-17 season with the Redhawks before transferring to Santa Clara prior to 2017-18.
• Santa Clara plays Nevada for the third time in the last four years. The Wolfpack came to Leavey Center in 2017-18.
• The 13 nonconference home games are the most since the Broncos joined the West Coast Conference in 1952-53.
• The Broncos have seven games scheduled with Pac-12 schools in the past two seasons. Last year, four Pac-12 schools (Cal, USC, Washington State and Washington) were on the schedule for the first time since 1993-94 (then the Pac-10). That season, Santa Clara faced Cal (twice), Stanford, Oregon and Arizona.

TEAM NOTES
• The Broncos have eight scholarship players returning from 2018-19, including the top five scorers in Tahj Eaddy (15.0 points per game), Josip Vrankic (13.7), Trey Wertz (12.2), Keshawn Justice (9.7) and Guglielmo Caruso (6.4).
• The roster features no seniors and only three juniors in Eaddy, Vrankic and DJ Mitchell who is eligible after transferring from Wake Forest last season. Eaddy was a second-team All-West Coast Conference pick last season and Vrankic earned honorable mention recognition.
• The newcomers are guards David Thompson, Giordan Williams, Jalen Williams and Miguel Tomley, and center Jaden Bediako.
