Men's Basketball Looks to Extend Home-Winning Streak, Faces Pepperdine on Thursday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Coming off a hard-fought win, Santa Clara men's basketball plays its second-straight at home in the first meeting of the season with Pepperdine.

Tipoff between the Broncos and Waves is set for 7 p.m.

The Broncos (16-4, 3-2) survived a scare from Pacific on Saturday by getting a season-high 31 points from Trey Wertz and making their final 21 free throws to hold on for a thrilling 84-80 victory.

Santa Clara now looks to extend its home-winning streak of 17 when the Waves (8-9, 2-3) visit Leavey Center.

Pepperdine, which is 3-4 on the road, has won two of its last three, but is coming off a 78-69 home loss to Saint Mary's.

The game will air locally on NBC Sports California and around the country on ROOT Northwest and AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain, Southwest and Pittsburgh.

QUICK HITS...
• Santa Clara has won its last 17 home games, dating to last season. That streak is the third longest in school history and ranks first all-time during the Toso Pavilion/Leavey Center era (since 1975-76). The mark is also the fifth-longest active streak in the NCAA. With a win Thursday, the Broncos can equal the second-longest home stretch without a loss in school history. Santa Clara has been defeated at home since a 66-55 loss to Saint Mary's (Feb. 14, 2019).
• Seven players are averaging at least 7.0 points, including four in double digits led by Trey Wertz (13.1 ppg), Guglielmo Caruso (11.6), Josip Vrankic (10.7), DJ Mitchell (10.6). Keshawn Justice is averaging 9.1 points, Tahj Eaddy 7.6 and Jalen Williams 7.4. Caruso, who has been out of the lineup, is the top rebounder at 5.5 per game. Mitchell is second at 5.4 and Vrankic third at 4.9. Wertz is averaging a team-high 3.7 assists per game and Vrankic is second at 3.3.
• With Saturday's win over Pacific, Santa Clara matched its win total from last season. The current record is the best through 20 games since 1994-95 when the mark was also 16-4. The 14-2 start was the best since opening a school-record 21-0 in 1968-69 on the way to a 27-2 mark and a trip to the NCAAs. The Broncos won at least 14 of 16 to begin a season for only fourth time in school history: 14-2 in 1930-31 and 15-1 in 1946-47.
