Women's Basketball Signs Two to National Letters of Intent

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball has signed Rafailia Stergaki and Sydney Bevington to National Letters of Intent and will join the Broncos for the 2021-22 season.

"We're excited to have Sydney and Rafailia join our program," Santa Clara head coach Bill Car said. "Both will bring versatility, passion and a great feel for the game when they arrive on campus. Equally as important, they will be amazing representatives of Santa Clara on and off the court."

Rafailia Stergaki | G | 5-9 | Thessaloniki, Greece | Aristotelio College

Stergaki's club team won three domestic championships and finished in second once. At the Greek U16 National Championships, her team finished fourth and at the U18's, the team finished third. During the U18 run, Stergaki was the top scorer of the semifinals. She was also named the MVP of the Thessalonki's tournament at age 14 and three times was in the Best Five. Thessalonki has also played for Greece's junior national team.

In the classroom she received a commendation for having a GPA over 3.75. In her free time she enjoys environmental volunteering and mentoring younger students.

Sydney Bevington | G | 6-0 | Arvada, Colo. | Ralston Valley High School

Bevington was named first team all-conference, team MVP, and was a Colorado "The Show" all-star pick each year from 2018-20 and was all-state in 2020. She is over 1,000 points and over 500 rebounds for her career with another year to play. As a junior, she scored 16.1 ppg and grabbed 9.6 rebounds per game. She is also a three-time USJN Pool All-Star.

In the classroom, Bevington was on the honor roll in 2018, '19, '20, and was named Colorado Academic All-State in 2019-20.

Both of Bevington's parents played basketball in college and her sister Sarah plays soccer at Elon.

In her free time she enjoys hiking, boating, off roading, playing pickleball, and hanging out with friends.
