Women's Basketball Falls to Pacific

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball lost to Pacific 86-62 Thursday night in the Leavey Center.

The Tigers (6-7, 4-6 WCC) got going almost immediately on offense and never slowed down. They shot lights out the entire game, finishing at 59.6-percent from the field and an impressive 13-of-24 from downtown.

A 10-0 run early in the game got Pacific off and running and later in the period, Kaylin Randhawa's 3-pointer at the 4:47 mark made it a double-digit lead. The Broncos (10-7, 6-5 WCC), playing their first home game of the season in Santa Clara, could never get the deficit back to single digits.

Pacific blew things open early in the second quarter with a 19-0 run that put away any doubt. Liz Smith hit back-to-back triples with Valerie Higgins and Rosie Schweizer both adding 3-pointers of their own during the stretch. A Schweizer layup capped the run and made it 43-12 at the 4:41 mark.

Higgins finished with a game high 20 and was 8-for-9 from the field with 10 rebounds for the double-double. Randhawa scored 13 and Sam Ashby scored 12. Lianna Tillman dished out 10 assists.

The Broncos showed life in the fourth, scoring 25 points, including a 17-2 run midway through the period.

Despite the good final quarter, Santa Clara shot 34.5-percent for the game and was just 4-of-20 from downtown.

Ashley Hiraki led Santa Clara with a career high 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting and added four rebounds. Merle Wiehl was also in double figures with 14 and pulled down six rebounds.
