SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball will play a pair of games at Cal Poly Monday and Tuesday. Both games will tip at 3 p.m.
SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 11-4 all-time against Cal Poly with the first meeting coming in 1971-72. The last meeting was a 69-63 Bronco win in San Luis Obispo on Nov. 27, 2015.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (0-0) went 12-19 and 5-13 in the West Coast Conference a season ago. The Broncos averaged 68.4 points per game on 40.9-percent shooting from the field and 32.9-percent from beyond the arc. They will have to make up for the loss of seven players who accounted for 72 starts and 43 ppg last season.
Ashlyn Herlihy started a team-high 30 games last year and led the way with 6.7 rebounds per game while finishing second with 10.3 ppg. Also back is Merle Wiehl who was third in scoring with 9.2 ppg and led the way with 45 3-pointers made. She also chipped in 4.2 rpg. Lindsey VanAllen was one of just two Broncos to appear in all 31 games and made 24 starts while scoring 8.4 ppg.
The Broncos have eight newcomers on the roster in the form of freshmen Anna Johnson, Lara Edmanson, Katie Harris, Ashley Hiraki, and Emma Ellinghouse and transfers Shayley Harris, who is eligible after sitting out last year, Bryce Nixon, and Danja Stafford.
THE MUSTANGS
Cal Poly (0-1) lost its season-opener to then-No. 2 Stanford 108-40 on Nov. 25 in Palo Alto.
Last season, the Mustangs went 11-18 and 6-10 in Big West play. Abbey Ellis, who ranked 13th around the country in scoring among all freshmen nationally with 15.6 ppg and Sierra Campisano who scored a team-high 17.2 ppg led the way.
Also back for the Mustangs are senior guards Chantel Govan and Malia Holt. The duo combined for 1.9 steals, 4.2 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game out of the backcourt in 2019-20.
