Wiehl Named to WCC All-Tournament Team

LAS VEGAS – After helping Santa Clara women's basketball to the semifinals of the University Credit Union West Coast Conference Tournament for the first time since 2016, Merle Wiehl was named to the All-Tournament Team. Lori Parkinson in 2016 was the last Bronco to be honored. 


The senior from Germany averaged 22.0 points per game while shooting 58.6-percent (17-of-29) from the floor and 50.0-percent (8-of-16) from downtown. She added 4.5 rebounds per game, 4.0 steals per game, and 1.5 assists per contest as well.

In the Broncos first game against LMU, Wiehl went off for a career-high 28 points in 28 minutes. She was 11-of-15 from the floor and 4-of-7 from deep with a career-best five steals as the Broncos cruised to a 83-68 victory.

In the semifinals against top-seeded Gonzaga, Wiehl put up 16 points against the league's top defense.

For the year, Wiehl, a Second Team All-WCC selection, scored 11.6 ppg with 5.1 rpg. She led Santa Clara with 45 3-pointers made, a 53.0-percent mark from the field and a 44.6-percent mark from downtown.
