Conference Action Begins at San Diego Monday for Women's Basketball

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – West Coast Conference play begins for Santa Clara women's basketball Monday with a 6 p.m. tip at San Diego.

The Broncos closed out nonconference action with a 54-48 win at UC Riverside.

SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 37-42 all-time against San Diego with the first meeting coming in 1984-85. Last season the teams split, each winning at home.

THE BRONCOS

Santa Clara (4-2) won three in a row to cap the nonconference slate. The Broncos finished nonleague play scoring 63.8 points per game on 40.7-percent shooting from the field and 33.1-percent from downtown. They held opponents to 55.8 ppg, allowing more than 60 points just once.

Ashlyn Herlihy leads the team with 12.2 ppg and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting 53.1-percent from the field and an impressive 8-of-13 from beyond the arc. Lindsey VanAllen has hit a team best nine 3-pointers and is second in scoring (11.0 pp) and rebounds (5.0 pg). Lexie Pritchard adds 8.7 ppg and Merle Wiehl scores 8.0 with Ashlee Maldonado's 3.8 assists per game a team high.

THE TOREROS
San Diego (3-2) is scoring 70.8 ppg as a team, buoyed by 98 points against San Diego Christian. The Toreros have shot 38.8-percent from the floor thus far and 29.2-percent from 3-point land. The most points they have allowed thus far is 64, twice, in both their losses.

Jordyn Edwards leads the team with 11.8 ppg, 3.4 steals per game, and 2.8 apg. Sydney Hunter is scoring 9.8 ppg with a team leading 7.2 rpg. Laura Erikstrup adds 8.4 ppg with Erica Martinsen's eight 3-pointers tops on the roster.
