SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara softball first baseman Sammy Needham was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week Monday.
Needham had a monster as Santa Clara went 3-1 at the Highlander Classic, picking up a pair of wins over UTEP and one over Idaho State.
The junior slashed .692/.733/.923 with three doubles, two walks, four RBIs, and five runs scored. She had three mutli-hit games, including three hits in each of the first two. In the weekend's first game, an 8-4 win, she drove in three runs with two doubles.
After nine games this year, Needham is hitting .586 with four doubles, seven RBIs, and nine runs scored. She has an on-base percentage of .606 and is slugging .724.
The Broncos have their home opener Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Yale on the opening day of the Silicon Valley Classic I.
