Softball Falls At San Jose State In Midweek Contest

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Facing one of the hottest teams in the country, Santa Clara softball fell to San Jose State 5-0 who won its 15th in a row.

Shannon Haddad (9-1), who entered with an ERA under 1.00, lived up to the billing and tossed a shutout. She allowed two hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Broncos (7-8) starter Lauren Anderson kept the high-powered Spartan (15-2) offense off the board until the third but San Jose State would score twice in the inning and add two more in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Suzy Brookshire led the way, going 3-for-3 with two doubles out of the cleanup spot. Rayohana Sagapolu, Makayla Englestad, and Cassidy Clark all had an RBI and a run scored out of the top three spots in the order.

Anderson (1-2) took the loss while going 3-plus innings. She allowed two runs on five hits with a walk.

Santa Clara got two on in the seventh via an infield hit and a walk with two down but couldn't muster anything else.

Sammy Needham and Taylor Burns collected the two hits and Eleni Spirakis and Hannah Edwards reached via walks.
